The Importance of a Level Sub FloorApril 1, 2013 – 9:56 pm
Let me begin and emphasize the importance of leveling it’s like eating your favorite cheese burger with just the cheese and no Patti, maybe that’s not the best example however I just want you to realize the importance and the impact of leveling a floor.
A lot of vancouver flooring contractors, homeowners, do it your-selfers will go without fixing or leveling a floor to a certain extent before they install their new laminate, hardwood, vinyl, tiles, or what have you. To build a solid house you start with your FOUNDATION – if your foundation is poor your house will be poor if your foundation is strong your house will be strong it’s that simple, if your subfloor foundation needs leveling and you don’t level and install your flooring most likely you will have some sort of complications with the install.
It’s ironic that there are so many people spending thousands of dollars on beautiful new floors designed to last for many, many years but won’t give it one thought on fixing or leveling there floors because they think it’s not important. The truth is that the longevity and function of your floors explicitly depend on the floor being flat, level and properly prepared.
Whatever the reason to not fix or level your subfloor maybe the day that comes and you’re ripping off all your flooring because you didn’t pay much attention to leveling your floors.
Let me say one more thing about floor leveling before I go into the meat of leveling, it doesn’t matter how much money you spend on your flooring – if your subfloor needs work – fix it – the end result will be the same with any type or cost of flooring if it remains un-level and “lumpy”. I may come across as harsh but I’ve seen a lot of good people lose a lot of money and have had a lot of unnecessary headaches because they missed this step I just don’t want to see or hear you go through it.
I’m not going to go through step by step on How to level your floors that will be on a separate blog because it’s a lot of info but this is merely just to give you an overview on how to go about it. First determine what your subfloor is it’s either has to be a wooden subfloor or a concrete subfloor because the application to leveling will differ abit.
Second is if you don’t know how to level and you want to do it yourself read my blogs I’m kidding, get information from the net, call up flooring stores, talk to experienced flooring installers the more knowledge you have the better however having knowledge about how to do it and have never done it before can be a bit scary but I have faith you can do it. At the end of the day nothing will be experience that is a fact but to get experience you have to try and the more you try the better you will get or at least you will get a much better feel for it.
When I’m writing I like to keep each topic separate so you will see different topics on just leveling. Hopefully all that info helped out.
